Safety Supplies You Should Have In Your Office

The type of safety supplies to keep if you are running a business depends on the nature of your business. However, all businesses should have fire safety supplies as a general rule. Health and Safety Matters

Health and safety rules are often lambasted by the public for their overbearing control on the day to day lives of most people. However IOSH (The Institute of Occupational Health and Safety) claim that 2 million people die every year across the world as a result of health and safety lapses and that in the European Union alone someone dies every 3.5 minutes for the same reason. You may not feel that in your line of work there is a likelihood of death through health and safety negligence but injuries can be sustained in the most mundane of situations. For example slips, trips and falls and improper lifting and carrying procedures are cited as the most common of office accidents. The employer or owner of business premises has a duty to ensure that they do not contravene health and safety regulations. If they are found to be at fault when an accident occurs then they are likely to face compensation claims. Read more...

Ask Your Employees if You Have a Strong Safety Program

One of the first questions we ask management when assessing a company or organization's safety program, is "How strong is your overall safety program?".
Invariably the answer is positive. Every company wants to believe that they have a strong approach to safety, and that they are doing the right things, even if the results aren't as good as they would like. A few years ago we started asking a follow -up question, "What would your employees say, if we asked them if you have a strong safety program" ? The reality is that the only assessment that counts is the second one, the opinion of the employees. If they don't believe in the company's safety program, it doesn't make much difference whether management thinks it's strong or not. The workers are the ones who are getting hurt, and whose behavior matters, and it is behavior that leads to injuries. The question that management needs to ask is not if the company's safety program is in perfect compliance, but if that program has a positive impact on the behaviors that lead to avoidable injuries and claims. Professionals are consulted for analysing the various aspects of safety maintenance.
